Bio-based WOODMER® polymers provide alternatives to plastics. Ecohelix WOODMER® biopolymer products are sustainable emission reducing materials, renewable polymer products derived from wood biomass side streams. These novel bio-based polymers provide excellent performance with low CO2 emissions helping formulators, converters and brand owners to reach high sustainability without compromising the performance of the polymers.

WOODMER® biopolymer is an amphiphilic polymer possessing film forming and adhesive properties. It is surface active which makes it highly useful in several different application areas in heat seal coatings, dispergation, adhesives and paper chemicals, alternatives to plastics and other harmful materials.

WOODMER® Seal

Fully wood-based monomaterial solution for heat seal coatings, fulfilling increasingly tightening packaging oblications

Versatile dispersing resin for water-based systems replacing oil-based dispersants for kaolin and other inorganic particles

High dry content and low viscosity enabling high wet tack and fast drying time – without microplastics problem

Superior performance in paper chemical applications at lower overall cost for the customer

  • Film forming, which is important for films and adhesives as it provides structural stability to a film material or an adhesive joint
  • Amphiphilic, which gives them surface active properties. This enables them to reduce the surface tension of key components in a formulation (for example water and oil or water and inorganic particles). This is utilized in a variety of applications such as ASA emulsification and kaolin dispersion, which are important in paper and board manufacturing
  • Tacky (stick to the surface of other materials). This property together with the film forming ability is important for adhesive applications, providing the bond between the adherends
  • Thermosoftening, which enables their use in plastic matrices and enables heat-seal coatings important for packaging applications
  • Hemicellulose, polymer with sodium lignosulfonate (CAS: 2769734-64-5)
  • Biobased, sustainable, renewable and non-food based polymer
  • Non-mutagenic (Eurofins / OECD 471 and 487)
  • Food contact safe (compliant with BfR Recommendation XXXVI and Article 3 of the Regulation (EU) No. 1935/2004)
  • Low CO2 emissions:
    • 0,582 CO2 eq/kg or -1,059 O2 eq/kg with biogenic uptake
    • 0,677 CO2 eq/kg
  • 98 % biobased (Dincertco biobased certificate: 8C243)
  • Compliant with Nordic ecolabel
